The Ugly Duckling
A mother duck lived in a rural area and raised her brood of ducklings once upon a time. Six adorable little yellow ducklings hatched from their eggs one day. One of the eggs, however, was still unhatched.
The mother duck's concerns over her seventh egg only increased as time passed. After what seemed like an eternity, it started to break, and out sprang a clumsy little creature. It was larger and had darker feathers than the other ducklings.
The mother duck was disheartened to see her ugly duckling, but she raised it with the same loving care she gave her other ducklings. Other ducklings and villagers' animals were not so kind, though. They picked on the ugly duckling and made fun of it because of its outward appearance.
The ugliest duckling in the pond was lonely and desirous of social acceptance. It made numerous attempts to blend in, but no matter what it did, the group rejected it outright.
The ugly duckling was ambling around the field one day when it spotted a flock of swans in the pond. The long, graceful necks and immaculate white feathers of the swans made them the most gorgeous birds the ugly duckling had ever seen. Ugly duckling was amazed to see them swim so effortlessly.
Watching the swans, the ugly duckling felt a burst of optimism. Perhaps, just possibly, there is beauty in it as well. It tried to join the swans, and to its delight, was accepted.
The ugly duckling eventually outgrew its clumsy, gray feathers and developed a beautiful white set in their stead. And one day, when it observed its own reflection in the pond, it discovered it had become a graceful swan.
The conclusion of the story is that we shouldn't pass judgment on others based on their outward look, because our differences can also be our best features.
