The Dog and His Reflection

The Dog and His Reflection
Aesop's Fables - The Dog and His Reflection

A dog once lived in a small, peaceful village and had everything he could possibly want. He had a warm bed to sleep in, plenty of food in his bowl, and a caring owner who looked after him.

The dog, however, was unsatisfied in spite of all of his favors. He was constantly seeking more, and he developed resentment towards the other dogs in the community who had better collars or larger bones.

The dog thought it was another dog when he saw his reflection in the water one day while he was wandering alongside the river. He hissed and barked at the "other dog," assuming it was attempting to steal his treat.

He stumbled and fell into the river as he stretched out to get the bone. The dog was left wet and without the bone, which was simply a reflection of it.

The lesson of the tale is that we should be grateful for what we already have and avoid letting avarice or resentment influence our decisions.
